The vet kept my new puppy :*(

Postby altered angel » 19 Jan 2010, 11:03

Amos has been licking and chewing his foot ever since I bought him home? I looked at it and it looked ok? Then one night he was crying, I looked again and it was a bit red but he'd been fussing with it for ages? Then last night I noticed my other dog was licking it as well, so I looked again and this time he'd chewed a hole in it :(

I took him to the vet this morning and they've kept him in to trim it and swab it because they can't see any obvious reason why he's done it.

I honestly nearly cried when I walked away and left him  I have no idea why. I've left my other dog for neuturing and everything and been fine. I just feel awful :(

It is awful and heartbreaking when you have to leave your dogs at the vets. But it will soon be over and they will both be home by tonight I guess. Best to have Amos' foot checked before it gets even worse.

Thinking of you.

You poor thing

I know just how you feel - Bella had to have some lumps removed last week and then she came home all stitched up and sore - I nearly cried when I left her there too - looking all tiny and lost. :(

Its for the best though, they need to find out what is bothering your little Guy.

Big hugs from all of us - Me, Bella and Carly boy.

Awww thank you all SO much! Everybody else thinks I'm crazy "It's ONLY a dog!" Noooo it isn't! LOL. (ok he is, but that isn't the point!)

Anyway he's home now. They haven't found a reason? He doesn't appear to have anything stuck in it? And he doesn't have mites (which was good news) He has very deep pads and they think 'maybe' he cut one of them and kept at it until he made it sore? Anyway he has a bandage, and a cone (which he HATES) and some anti inflamatorys and he's going back on Friday to see how it is (if the cone hasn't driven him insane before then

Thank you again for understanding.

Or destroyed the house - which is what Ollie nearly did once as after being neutered he wouldn't leave his stitch's so had to wear a cone.

Going through a door became a very complicated manouvre and as for anything not fixed that was at head height!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Well everything was fine until 20 minutes AFTER the vet closed and then he took off the bandage with his cone still on!!!

We had to take him to an emergency surgery to get it all done again and a cone TWICE the size put on! Now he can't even walk without falling over!

Lisa, I read all about that collie of yours, and its a real labour of love isnt it? If its any consolation I have the utmost respect for you and the way you are managing that situation. Lots of people would have given up by now.

Keep you chin up xx

*haha* Thank you all for sticking with me through this! It's having people to talk to that is keeping me (partly) sane!

Don't worry that it cheers you up - That's a good thing! All my friends on Facebook think it's hilarious! It's actually like HELL here but having some humour injected into it during the day keeps me going.

He's walking into EVERY door 'when' he gets there. Because the cone is SO big now he trips up just walking. The little dog (Sid) is getting inside the cone! Then the puppy will stand up and send him flying! Sid's just realised if he jumps on Amos' back and bites his neck, Amos can't reach him. Amos suddenly headbutts the floor and gets stuck. If he walks into the back of my legs again, I think I might be permanently bruised! and so it goes on .............. and on

Roll on tomorrow and see what the vet says, If he has to stay like this I think I'll cry

Sorry you have problems with your dog Lisa :( I haven't seen your post ??? I'm going to look for it now xxxx Hope things improve for you soon.

Aww poor Amos :( But I have to say I agree...he looks sooo cute with his liitle cone and red bandage on!!

I am exactly the same! I had to take Dylan to the vets a couple of weeks ago as I stayed at my parents house overnight and he managed to nab a bottle of ibuprofen off the side and, probably thinking it was a toy coz it made fab noises, chewed it until he got in to the tablets! They were all scattered over his bed and we think he had just taken amouthful, chewed them, realised they tasted vile and spat them out....but as I wasnt sure he had to spend the day in the vets. I started to nearly cry when I was in there and had to leave him with the vet (who had given him a jab to make him sick so he looked all sorry for himself) and then got outside and burst into tears! Luckily he was fine, but I just hated leaving him there....didnt want him to think he had been naughty and was back at another pound!

As it happens he seemed perfectly happy there when I picked him up!

So how long has Amos got to wear his collar? Dylan got given one when he was neutered but he was so miserable with it I had to take it off.

Oh I shouldnt go reading my threads, there's loads
I have 5 dogs and one of them, pop the collie has had problems since we got her but she is the best dog ever and wins everyones hearts. Ive never know such a problem dog to be the favorite with every member of the family. She is so entertaining and full of personality just cant cope with ANYTHING outside her 4 walls :reallysurprised: She also has bad allergies and recently got badly bitten by another dog which was very upsetting.
I like you like to have someone to talk things through, hence all my threads  My partner turns off after 10 minutes of doggie talk

Thanks Nicola for the kind comments, She is worth the effort and we will continue for as long as it takes.

Ive not had a cone experience for many years but the ones I have had stuck in my memory, Not nice at the time but quite entertaining for outsiders looking in  hope he learns to lift his head before he walks soon :goofywink: He really is a cutie

I hear ya' - dont laugh but I often compare my weekly session with a professional to going to marriage counselling, lol. Often me and Carl have reached a stalemate or an impasse over something and cannot appear to move forwards, - tears, sleepless nights, worry, you name it - 60 minutes with a 3rd party and some proffesional advice and away we go again as happy as could be.

How is Amos now?
I'm sure he will be pleased when the cone comes off.

My cat Fat Jack had been fighting and had a sore on top of his head and he managed - heaven knows how - to keep the sore open by worrying at it. So I took a sock, cut the toe bit off, cut holes for his ears, and put it on him like a balaclava so he couldn't get to the sore. He didn't set foot outside until the sock was removed. I wonder if he worried about his street cred?

*haha* I'd LOVE to see a photo of that! Of course if he's worried about his street cred he might not like it branded on the internet for all to see, but I won't tell if you don't! LOL.

Amos had his bandage taken off yesterday but they wanted him to keep his cone on until he is completely healed. However by the time we got home he had found a way to reach it and chew it AGAIN! :reallysurprised: I rang the vet and she said I could take him back to have it re-dressed, but the bandage had started to make his elbow sore so I decided to leave him overnight and see what it looked like. Anyway he seems to be leaving it alone for the time being. When he goes out I bathe it with warm salt water and dry it for him and obviously he's MUCH happier. So fingers crossed we might be on the right track now.

Cat in a sock! That's gonna make me laugh all day lol x

 Brilliant that you had a good laugh - it really does something for the morale, doesn't it?

So, here are some notes that were left for the Milkman:
"Dear Milkman, I've just had a baby, please leave another one."

"Please leave an extra pint of paralysed milk."

"Please don't leave any more milk. All they do is drink it"

"Milkman please close the gate behind you because the birds
keep pecking the tops off the milk."

"Sorry not to have paid your bill before, but my wife had a
baby and I've been carrying it around in my pocket for weeks."

"Sorry about yesterdays note. I didn't mean one egg and a
dozen pints, but the other way round."

"When you leave my milk knock on my bedroom window and wake
me because I want you to give me a hand to turn the mattress."

"Please knock. My TV's broken down and I missed last nights
'Sopranos' . If you saw it, will you tell me what happened."

My daughter says she wants a milkshake. Do you do it
before you deliver or do I have to shake the bottle."

"Please send me a form for cheap milk, for I have a baby
two months old and did not know about it until a neighbour told me."

"Milk is needed for the baby. Father is unable to supply it."

"From now on please leave two pints every other day and one
pint on the days in between, except Wednesdays and Saturdays
when I don't want any milk."

My back door is open. Please put milk in 'fridge, get
money out of cup in drawer and leave change on kitchen
table because we want to play bingo tonight."

"Please leave no milk today. When I say today, I mean
tomorrow, for I wrote this note yesterday ... or is it today ?"

"When you come with the milk please put the coal on the boiler,
let dog out and put newspaper inside the screen door.
PS. Don't leave any milk."

"No milk. Please do not leave milk at No. 14 either as he
is dead until further notice."
