One Year Old Boy Killed by Rottweiler
A one year old toddler was savaged to death by a Rottweiler in the yard at his relatives home on Friday, December 28th in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Police were called to the scene by the ambulance service at 3.30 p.m. and the dog was subsequently destroyed by police marksmen. The toddler was rushed to hospital but died from the severity of his injuries.
Last year, Ellie Lawrenson was mauled to death by her uncle’s pit bull terrier on New Years Day.
This latest attack by a family dog highlights the need for dog owners to be more aware of the fact that our pets are often traumatised by the stress of the festive season, and that the number of visitors to a house containing a guarding breed of dog needs to be monitored and controlled with extreme care. The boy was at a relative’s house when the attack happened, and was presumably not introduced to the dog correctly, or perhaps at all before leaving them together. This incident also highlights the need for constant dog training and dog obedience practice to be undertaken by all owners and emergency commands to be instilled in any dog including “Leave” and “Down”.
