Crufts 2008 - Betting on ‘Super Dog’ suspended…
Bookmakers William Hill has suspended betting on who will win Best In Show at this years dog show, Crufts 2008.
Large amounts have been staked on the winner of the coveted prize coming from the Utility Group judged on Thursday 8th March. This group includes dogs such as the Miniture poodle and the Dalmatian.
Tongues are now wagging over claims that the group contains a “superdog” destined to take the show by storm. The odds on the winner coming from the utility group dramatically shortened from 13/2 to ½ on. Bookies feared that they were going to be paying out a fortune.
The competition is certainly fierce and what once started as a hobby has become a serious business. 23,964 dogs entered what is said to be the biggest dog show in the world.
The dogs in the final line up to win the Utility group were:
Lowchen Japanese Shiba Inu, Japanese Spitz, Italian Greyhound, King Charles Spaniel, Bichon Frise, Australian Silky Terrrier, Coton de Tular, Griffon Bruxellous, Havanese, Maltese, Papillion, Pekenese, Pomerian, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and a Pug.
It did not take the judge long to declare the Japanese Shiba Inu, Janeryls in the line of fire or Tango as she is more commonly known, winner of the utility group. Tango’s owner, Mrs Janice Bannister was “very proud”.
Whether Tango is the “superdog” the bookies fear remains yet to be seen.
