As with many of the short-faced dogs, the Chin does tend to wheeze and snore. They are also susceptible to heart, eye and breathing problems.
The Japanese Chin is a dainty dog with a small, broad face and a short, wide muzzle. They have round eyes with an oriental look. They have a square body and slender legs. The coat is profuse and the tail is carried over the back. The Chin has a long coat that is white with patches of black (most common) but also can be red, yellow, orange or brindle. The coat is very silky with feathering on the ears, tail and body. The chin walks with an elegant, high-stepping gait.
