The Japanese Shiba Inu is and excellent dog for lead walking but do appreciate a good run as well.
The Shiba Inu is not a greedy dog and will sometimes appear to be disinterested in his food bowl. They thrive on a natural diet given in small amounts. Plenty of clean water must be readily available to prevent this dog from becoming dehydrated.
No special health requirements are needed for this robust and healthy dog.
A small but sturdy dog with an alert, lively expression. The head is broad and triangular shaped with an abrupt stop. The eyes are small and are dark brown in colour and this dog’s ears are upstanding. The muzzle is straight and the dog has a regular bite. (The upper teeth overlap the lower) The neck is thick and muscular going down to a short, straight-backed body, with a deep chest and a well tucked up belly. The tail is set high and is carried curled over the back. The coat is harsh and straight on top with a soft undercoat. The coat colours are red, red/white, black/tan, or brindle.
