The Kerry Blue Terrier is the national dog of Ireland.

Breed Purpose: To hunt small game and birds. To retrieve from both land and water.

Kennel Club Dog Group: Terrier

Height: Bitch 44-48cm., Dog 46-51cm.

Weight: Both 15-18kg (bitches tend to be a little lighter)

Lifespan: 12-15 years

Exercise Needs: This little dog is a true sporting breed that needs daily walks and an occasional hike through the countryside.

Feeding Needs: The Kerry Blue Terrier is not a fussy eater. They must be fed quality food to keep the coat in good condition.

Common Ailments: This dog is very healthy and active and has no common medical conditions.

Physical Description: The overall appearance of the Kerry is one of an upstanding, compact, muscular dog with an alert attitude. They have a long head with V shaped ears and dark eyes. The neck is long, going down to a strong, level-backed body. The tail is carried upright. This dog's fame lies in the colour of its coat which is a wonderful shade of blue. The coat is dense and wavy and is silky to touch. The Kerry Blue Terrier is born solid blue-black or dark grey, with blue coloured skin. As the dog matures, so the coat changes colour to any shade of blue/grey, the darker the blue, the more stunning is the coat.
