Despite being small this lively dog needs a daily short walk and loves to play at home. Lack of exercise may lead to behavioural problems.
No special feed requirements but the Pom is sometimes a fussy eater.
The Pomeranian can be prone to dental problems and tooth loss. Females may need assistance when birthing and the puppies need careful handling as they are extremely small. Only choose puppies from reputable breeders as some bloodlines are prone to eye problems and dislocated patella.
The Pomeranian is a small dog with a wedge-shaped head and erect ears. The almond shaped eyes are dark coloured. They have a distinct ruff around the neck and chest area with an abundance of hair. The body is compact and the tail is feathered. The coat colours are any solid colour with red, orange, white or cream being the most popular.
Parti – coloured coats can be black and tan, wolf or orange.
Pomeranian K9 Obedience Dog Breed Summary:
These dogs are lively, intelligent and loyal.
Although they do get on with other dogs if introduced correctly, they will attack much larger dogs if they are so inclined and not well-socialised during early life.
Barking can be a problem so training is needed to curb this instinct.
Despite being small they need firm handling and plenty of training or they may become domineering and demanding.
The Pom finds young children a bit overpowering and may snap at them if not introduced and familiarised properly.
This dog is an excellent companion for the elderly or a quieter home. |
