Border Collie : 'Koda' |
|
Hi, my name is Rosie. I live with my husband and two dogs. My dog is Koda, he is almost 2 years old and I am his third Mommy!
I found Koda through the Blue Cross Rescue Centre in Lewknor; his picture appeared on their site and I just new this was the boy for me. We are some distance from the Rescue Centre but that was of little concern, I wanted to meet this little Border Collie and nothing was going to stop me. Luckily, the Blue Cross was very accommodating and we were allowed to visit the next day; I was so excited I could hardly sleep. We drove down, observing all speed limits (just about), arriving just before lunch. The team gave us a brief synopsis of ‘Bob’s’ life to date; he had been to rescue twice, so they were keen to match him up perfectly. His name was Bob, probably because he does not have a tail, just a little stump that bobs up when he is happy. We were told he had had the tail surgically removed by a vet but we do not know the circumstances surrounding the incident; it does not seem to impair him in any way and not many people notice it is missing! It appears that he has been with children as he is very good around them; someone has also started basic training with him as he is very quick to learn.
When it was time to be introduced; I stood by the gate to a field and he was charging towards me dragging a carer behind him. He stopped at the fence and we looked at each other – it was love at first sight. It was a good thing that we had our other dog with us as they were allowed to play in the secure field together; they got on well straight away. After lots of questions and checks, a day later we were able to bring him home and we haven’t looked back. He has completely forgotten he was called Bob and recognises he is Koda, named after the orphaned bear in the Disney film Brother Bear.
As with all Border Collie pups he is a handful of energy. We were lucky in finding places for both of our dogs in a local flyball team; they both love it. Koda is lightening fast, he needs to improve his technique a bit and keep his head out of the tennis ball box (he is mad for the ball) and in time we should have a champion dog.
Like most rescue dogs he has needed our patience, time and understanding, we have given this and more, in return we have the most loving, faithful dog, what more could either of us ask for, Koda is everything to me, from that first look and hello we have been inseparable. |
