"Gemma" the Lhasa Apso |
|
I decided on a Lhasa Apso having seen a little ball of fluff running round my neighbour’s garden. It resembled a mogwai and was so damn cute and friendly I fell in love. That week I went and chose Gemma. She was 5 days old and tiny and couldn’t even open her eyes to se her new Mummy. I then visited her 4 weeks later and she fell asleep in my hand. I think we both knew she was in the right place. Then 1 day before Christmas she came home and my life began with Gemma.
She was a little tearaway but she didn’t cry at night and she trained extremely well doing basic commands at 10 week old. She loves her walks and has an incredible amount of energy for such a small dog. Never underestimate how agile and sturdy these dogs are. Gemma is amazing. She is soon to be attending ring craft classes to train her to show, she is an elegant darling and I think she would do wonders in shows. When she is old enough she will then also go onto Agility.
Then 4 months later a lady called me and asked if I was interested in a play mate for Gemma. I visited Joey that day and he was an adorable 13 week old Lhasa Apso. He seemed taken with Gemma so two days later he was at home with me. Nothing could have prepared me for what was in store. Joey had some anxieties and was very jealous of Gemma. After 4 months of trying to train him and settle him I came very close to re-homing him. One day before he was due to leave I couldn’t do it. I am now enrolling him on a Good Citizens class in the hope that he will stop being aggressive on walks and learn to be more friendly. He loves his cuddles but suffers greatly from insecurity. He has no need to feel this way as he is my little boy and I love him dearly. Once we have worked on his problems I will then consider Agility in the future.
Gemma and Joey are like two peas in a pod. They fight, they cuddle, they snap and growl but take one away for a split second and they pine for the other. They are my two little babies and I love them with all my heart so it’s in my best interest to give them a great, happy and fulfilling life – with me. |
