We have 2 dogs: A 1 1/2 year old chocolate Doberman dog called Eddie
and a 2 year old Collie x EBT bitch called Lolly.
I am a serving British soldier called Robert Allen and I have lived in
Kenya with my wife Kelly and the dogs for 2 years. We return to UK in
August 2010. Eddie was bought from a reputable dealer here in Nairobi
but we will find it difficult to register him in the UK. Lolly was a
rescue dog from Salisbury Dogs Trust who we bought while based in
Wiltshire. She had been adopted once before but returned. We brought
her to Kenya but she needed a companion so we searched for a dog with
the right temperament and breed characteristics to suit her. I had
always wanted a Doberman and after some research we agreed that we
would be able to give one the right kind of life and went and found
Eddie.
Eddie bonded to Lolly immediately and she mothered him with endless
patiance and energy. Now they are both almost fully grown they just
want to play. The garden is constantly noisy unless they have got a
fresh bone to chew. They chase and run with each other all day long.
They are very similar in size and energy and are like brother and
sister. Eddie has learnt a lot of behaviour from Lolly on top of his
own natural tendencies. This means that they have the same taste in
games!
Lolly is a powerful sprinter and can oupace Eddie every time. However
Eddie is a pair of lungs on legs and will keep going all day. Lolly
will charge after Eddie once he has got her in the mood for a chase and
then Eddie will dodge and weave to get awaty from her before charging
around at full gallop with Lolly at his shoulder. If Lolly wants to
start a game she will pick up a toy and wave it in Eddie's face until
he tries to grab it and then the chase is on!
There is never a dull moment with them and Eddie follows us around
like a proper 'velcro dog' while Lolly is content to sleep in a corner.
